About the Site
This site was opened July 21, 2005, as a place for me to dump... I mean showcase... my pixel dolls. I originally was going to name the site "Island in the Sun Dolls" after the Weezer song that was stuck in my head, but I liked the alliteration of Desert Island Dolls better. I got an idea for the layout even though I didn't have many dolls, decided to go ahead with it. (screencap of the original layout)
There isn't much around here other than the dolls themselves. I might do a contest eventually, if an interesting one occurs to me. There aren't more tutorials because, frankly, my dolling abilities aren't really good enough for me to tell anyone else what to do. And there aren't more bases because, well, look at the ones that are there. I'm just not that good at them, though if I ever improve, that section will expand, too.
I write commentary for all of my dolls because I like reading other people's thoughts on the dolls they've made, and hope people feel the same about mine. Many of the dolls are based off characters from stories I've written, because I'm much, much more of a writer than an artist.
I coded the layout of the site by hand in Taco HTML Edit (a very basic HTML editor for Macs). The graphics were all done myself (except for the layout doll base, which is credited on the main page) in Adobe Photoshop CS. I did a frames layout that should scale pretty well, and work in any resolution that's 800x600 or larger.
