Modern/Casual Dolls
Polly is one of my oldest characters, based loosely on a friend of mine (the same way that the character Itsy is based on me). I was inspired to do this by the base, which I really like, and by a contest; I don't think I'll enter her, though, because all of the experimenting I did (and there's a lot) didn't turn out how I wanted it to at all. I really like her jeans, though. |
Itsy (me) The third and final doll for a vanity pageant. Myself at work: I'm an editor/researcher for a magazine, so I don't have a uniform, per se, but I do have to dress professionally. So pinstripe slacks, the button down shirt, dress shoes. I had a frustrating time with the outer shirt, but overall, I like how this turned out. (It's another one where I got some good advice from people at TS.) |
Unnamed Strandee She hopefully looks familiar, since she's the doll on the layout. She's no one in particular, and I whipped her up pretty quickly. She's kind of cute, but nothing special, though I do like the way her shorts turned out a lot. |
Itsy (me) This is me (kind of) in casual wear, done for a contest. I'm really, really proud of her. Her hair is okay, the shoes are okay, the belt is okay; the skirt is pretty good, but I looove her shirt. I've never tried anything like the ribbing before, and I adore how it turned out. It's basically all tool shaded, I'm trying to develop some kind of technique, since that seems to come more easily to me than pixel shading. We'll see how that's going down the line, I guess. |
Itsy (me) That's me, all dressed up (though without my glasses). The doll is done for a contest, you have to draw yourself in a formal dress you actual own. Well, that was my dress from Senior Formal, which I loooove. I love both the dress and the doll, actually. I used a gradient on it, which I'd never done before, and it's basically entirely tool shaded. And for a change, I even love how her hair turned out. |

Candace Fulbright Candace is a modern reincaration of Artemis, for a story I'm very half-heartedly planning. I worked very, very hard on this doll (she took me weeks!) but I can never decide if I actually like her or not. I think I'm just disappointed because, while she turned out well, she didn't turn out as well as I hoped. *shrug* I also should thank the awesome people from Tequila Sunrise. They gave me a lot of help with her. |
Itsy (me) This is my av over at Tequila Sunrise. I love the way her shirts turned out, I was experimenting with tool shading. Sadly, the experiment didn't work out very well on the hair, and her glasses are awkward. I do like the stars, though. |
Jackie Peters Jackie, AKA Lime, is from a story that my friend Jess and I are writing. She's half of a fictional pop duet named Tart. I loooooooooooove the way she turned out, I think she's my very favorite doll. I love everything about her, I think. |
Orlando Fulbright Orlando is another doll I love to death. He's a reincarnation of Apollo (see Candace above) as a modern day teenager. He turned out adorably, and I absolutely love the shading on his shirt. He's also a personal success story. I did his hair and absolutely loathed it. I got frustrated and wanted to be done with the doll, but made myself put it away and come back hours later. I erased all the hair and redid it, and though it's not perfect, I'm pleased with how much better it was than it might have been. |
Bethany Aarons Bethany is the Lemon half of Tart, the pop duet mentioned above. She was the first doll I did when I decided to return to it after a year, so though I can see a number of flaws in her, I'm pleased overall. |
David Jacobs David, from my AU Newsies fic. The shading on this doll is terrible. His hair is even worse. Sorry, David. |
Katie Blackwell Katie is the protagonist of a novel I'm editing, with the hopes of selling someday. I'll admit it, I suck at shoes, as you can see in this doll. However, I love her sweatshirt, especially the sleeves, and the jeans aren't bad, either. Overall, I'm quite pleased with her. |
Harriet is a supporting character from that same novel. I'm very, very pleased with how she turned out. She's entirely pixel shaded and took hours, but I love the folds and wrinkles. Technically speaking, she's sci-fi, not modern, but whatever. |
Gloria Gloria is a character with no real story. I mostly just wanted to make a doll on my base. She didn't turn out very well...Probably because I made a doll on my own base. Ah, well. I sort of recyled her outfit into Candace (above), who turned out much better. |
At the time, I really, really loved Trixie. Now I don't remember why. She's fine, but unremarkable. |
I loved this one at the time, though now I can do much better. She inspired the original layout for the site, without which...there would be no site. So I guess it's a good thing I made her, unremarkable though she seems now. |
Heh, I forgot to take off Solace's logo. This doll is... bleh. She was bleh at the time, too. The only thing worthwhile is the way the blue streaks in her hair turned out. |
