History

Veronica's family is extremely wealthy, thanks to the family business: Silvers Energy Co. They own and operate over half of the nuclear power plants in North America, as well as many small non-nuclear power plants. But there's more to what they do than that, the Silvers family has been involved in organized crime. Veronica's mother, Lauren, was a brilliant scientist who developed all sorts of weapons, both bombs and biological.
Lauren and James were working with a terrorist organization which was bent on controlling the U.S. She was working on an experiment in a secret lab beneath Power Plant #51, when Veronica was about seven years old. Veronica was with her, when they received word that an employee had sold them out and told the government of their existence. In order to destroy the evidence, Lauren pulled "the switch" at the power plant, which caused a large meltdown. She had an escape route from her lab, but couldn't get the trap door open in time. Both Veronica and Lauren were caught in the lab when the plant exploded, releasing deadly radiation everywhere.
The laboratory was protected from radiation but set to destroy itself in the confusion, getting rid of any evidence that the Silvers were developing weapons. But when the lab was destroyed, one of the experiments got spilled all over Veronica.
Her mother died in the lab, but moments before she would have been killed the trap door opened, and Veronica made it partially to safety. She had been exposed both to the genetic experiment and to nuclear radiation, and when she was found she was unconscious and a silver glow was around her.
For six months, Veronica was basically quarantined in a hospital. The doctors couldn't figure out why she was alive, let alone startlingly healthy. It seemed that something had happened to her DNA, but only to the junk strands, and that she was utterly unaffected. However, six months of seeing only men in white coats and technical equipment, Veronica developed a severe fear of doctors and hospitals, and all things connected with them. When she was finally allowed to see her father, she cried and pleased with him until he convinced the doctors she could go home. He felt extremely guilty about her being stuck in the plant because his wife was working on one of their experiments, about her mother dying, and about being a fairly bad father up until that point. It was that guilt that later let Veronica twist him around her little finger. James Silvers spent the next several years shielding Veronica from the outside world. He didn't know she'd had the experiment poured on her, but guessed she knew at least partially what her mother had been doing. If she said something by accident, it could mean the end of the line for him, so she spent most of her childhood isolated.
Among other things, Veronica convinced her Daddy Dearest not to ever force her to go to the doctors. She was always healthy, so he couldn't see a need for it. As it turned out, that was lucky. The effects of the experiment didn't show up until her hormones also started changing. She realized something strange was happening the day she fell while practicing gymnastics, and her elbow landed bent the wrong way. It didn't hurt and it wasn't broken, she stood up and was fine. But she began to experiment and discovered that literally every joint in her body could bend any way she chose.
Eventually, she also learned that she didn't bleed any more. When she cut herself, a few drops of a silver liquid would be shed, and then the cut would heal in moments. To her surprise, she could also heal others- something she found out when her cat came home with a large gash in its ear. She had been curious about what would happen, so she cut herself and let the silver "blood" drip on to her cats ear. Moments later, it was fine.
A more minor side-effect was that she could now alter certain things about her appearance. Not her height or build, but her hair color, eye color, and skin tone she could alter at will.
As for Veronica's father, he remarried. She ended up with a stepmother who hated her, and a stepbrother who was an idiot in her opinion. Despite the fact that her father would give her anything, in hopes that if she was happy she wouldn't ever tell what had really happened at Plant #51, she just wanted to leave and go somewhere where her father wasn't constantly looking over her shoulder. He never let her go to public school, she'd been home schooled since the accident.
Her opportunity to leave came when it was time for her to attend college. After months of pleading, he allowed her to attend Gotham University- with the promise that she wouldn't date, would make too many friends, wouldn't leave campus more than she had to... Basically, Veronica had to promise not to have any sort of social life. She agreed eagerly, thinking that even that would be better than living at home forever.
And so, Veronica enrolled in Pallis University, was accepted, and after sharing some tears with Daddy Dearest, left home....

Appearance

As Veronica:
Veronica has sun-blond hair that falls to halfway down her shoulder blades. Her eyes are pale blue. She's 5'4" and light for her size, she's got a skinny comic book figure. Her skin is pale and seems almost blemish less. Although she has a few scars- especially after she starts crime fighting- they're almost all hidden by clothes or a silver-white so light you can barely see them. The only one that's noticeable is a slash across her left palm. Her fashion sense runs towards preppy, and she's got an obnoxious innocent glow around her that makes her look good in sweaty work out clothes.
As Silver:
Silver's trademark color is - and I'm sure you're shocked - silver. Her hair is pure silver; not gray or white or blond or a combination thereof. (This includes her eyebrows.) Her eyes are also silver, and she eventually buys some nifty-keen silver lipstick. Her height and build remain the same, although she has an amazing ability to chang her skin thickness so her fingerprints disappear.
Her costume is your typical femme fatale skimpy leotard. It's silver (shocker, ne?) with short sleeves and a round neckline. She wears a choker with an 'S' on it, and a raccoon-style silver mask. Her boots come up to a point, not quite to her knee. Finally, she has a darker gray (NOT silver!) loosening belt with a small silver knife attached. She never actually uses the knife for fighting, it a) looks cool and b) lets her slice her hand open to bleed on people's wounds in order to heal them.

Personality

Veronica is almost skitzophrenic, in that her personality changes in a heartbeat, and then back again only moments later. This is partially a conscious decision on her part- her Daddy Dearest will only ever see Veronica's angelic side, where Brian mostly gets her attitude. However, the most dramatic changes happen when Veronica is being herself versus when she's being Silver.
Unless she's in costume, Veronica isn't a fan of public speaking. Or public anything, for that matter. She was very sheltered growing up; her friends were all preappointed by her father. She's not used to talking to strangers, and they make her nervous. So do crowds. Veronica is scared and innocent in many ways; she's not likely to go out and try to make friends. As a result, she has very few friends at all.
But there are times when Veronica gets up on a soapbox, when surrounded by people she's comfortable with. She'll talk and preach and pull a 'holier-than-thou' attitude that can get really annoying. (Brian, for example, has no patience for it.) Or, more likely, she'll let her guard down around people she knows well, and her spoiled-rotten-teenage-girl attitude will show up. Signs of this are biting sarcasm and jokes at others' expense. (Joking about people is something Veronica will never do unless it's someone she knows very, very well.) This attitude also comes out around Michael Hollydale a lot.
As Silver, she tends to be a mixture of her holier-than-thou act and her sarcastic side. Her comic book banter is usually cheesy, but there are times when she makes cruel jokes about the villains. Or about Archer. As Silver, she's a lot more confident than as Veronica, as if the costume gives her inner strength; or at least it lets her hide her weaknesses. As Silver, she's likely to show off both her gymnastics skills and her figure. (As Veronica, she doesn't flirt. Or date. Ever.)
