Blink Week

The Results! - Third Annual (2005)

This year's contest was very hard to decide; so many fics fit well into several categories that placing them was quite difficult. I really enjoyed reading every one of them, and appreciate every entry!

Best Slashfic

First Place: A Kind of Wild Justice by entropic order
Rating: PG-13
Summary: When you get angry, all rational thought fades to the periphery, and all that's left is the incredible urge to hurt someone.

To tell the truth, I think this fic can be read as slash or gen, as the slash is entirely inferred on my part (which tells you where my mind is). But it was a very dark, immediate fic; it set a tone very well and stuck with me after I finished reading it.

Second Place [tie]: Being Blink's Best Friend by Cola
Rating: K+
Summary: Plotless wonder where Blink is tired of being alone and whines to Race about wanting a boyfriend. Slight implied slash.

Second Place [tie]: Saturday Night by Sketch
Rating: PG
Summary: Racetrack and the boys plan a birthday surprise for Blink... which backfires, naturally.

Best Gen/Het

First Place: Paint the Days Away by Shadowlands
Rating: PG
Summary: Blink has to do some chores, and he really doesn't want to, so Mush comes over to help him. [Not slash.]

This fic was a great, fun read; it was teenage boys goofing around like teenage boys really do.

Second Place: Heartbroken by Dreamless_Mermaid
Rating: G
Summary: Blink/OC one shot. Blink has to make one of the toughest descions of his life and he couldn't bare to break her...

Best Characterization

First Place: I Remember She Was Smiling by Allie
Rating: K+ (PG)
Summary: "Kid Blink isn't a one-eyed newsie today. He is five again, and his mother is brushing her hair."

This fic has an interesting framing device to it, and a unique tone. It's also a fascinating take on Blink's history.

Second Place: The Waking Hours by Tuesday
Rating: PG-13
Summary: He felt like he was living his life like a requiem for something he had inadvertently lost under the guise of getting what he wanted.

Best Overall Fic

First Place: My Best Friend by Charlie Bird
Rating: PG
Summary: This is a story about a boy and his dog. The boy's name is Ryan, and when this story starts, Ryan doesn't know about the dog. So, for the sake of accuracy and literary device, we won't name the dog yet.

This is one of the most delightful fics I've read in a long time. It's narrated by 12-year-old Mush, a change both in age and narrator from most fics, and it left me smiling all evening long.

Second Place: Have Faith by Sparks Donnen
Rating: G
Summary: Blink looking at his life and seeing how a little faith changed his world.

Thank you to everyone who entered! I hope to have such a good turnout again next year!
